Experimental Granulopenia, Due to Bacterial Toxins Elaborated in Vivo
Pyogenic organisms, under conditions simulating a focal infection, are capable of producing in rabbits a granulopenia which may allow generalized infection and death. It is suggested that agranulocytosis in man is due to the action of leucocidin, rather than to a specific microorganism.
متن کاملExperimental bacterial endocarditis due to Streptococcus mitis.
It is important in order to advance the increasingly successful attack on subacute bacterial endocarditis to be able to produce the disease experimentally and to treat it with new and improved therapeutic regimens. Since endocarditis caused by Streptococcus mitis has not been consistently produced previously in the dog, a study was undertaken in which cardiovascular stress was created by the es...
متن کاملBacterial toxins.
Many bacterial toxins are proteins, encoded by the bacterial chromosomal genes, plasmids or phages. Lysogenic phages form part of the chromosome. The toxins are usually liberated from the organism by lysis, but some are shed with outer membrane proteins in outer membrane vesicles. An important non-protein toxin is lipopolysaccharide or endotoxin, which is a constituent of the cell wall of gram ...
متن کاملMosquito Resistance to Bacterial Larvicidal Toxins
Insecticide resistance to the microbial insecticides Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis (Bti) and Bacillus sphaericus (Bs) represents a serious threat to their success. Available evidence indicates that the risk for resistance to Bti is low due to the makeup of its parasporal crystal, which contains Cyt1A, Cry4A, Cry4B, and Cry11A toxic proteins. Disrupting the toxin complex in Bti enabl...
